Director Biographies

The purpose of this page is to share with the Prince William Lassie League membership a bit of information to help you get to know the members of our current Board of Directors, as well as how each one serves the League.  This list isn't complete so check back often!  Our Directors are, in alphabetic order:

  • Marvila Arevalo (“Weela”)  Treasurer, Spanish Community Liaison
Weela joined the PWLL as an Assistant Coach in our Instructional Division in 2011 and is now a Head Coach in our Junior Division.  Although she does not have any daughters in the league, she coaches because of her love for the game and her desire to see PWLL succeed.  Weela serves as a Spanish liaison for our community and has served on the Board for three years, previously as Co-Director of Equipment, then Parliamentarian and now as Treasurer.

Weela currently works for a law firm as a Legal Assistant in Georgetown.  She has been in the litigation field for 18 years and has proven herself to be a dedicated and loyal employee, working her way up from being a receptionist.

  • Mike Holmes Junior Division Director
Mike's first experience with PWLL was in the early 2000's when he came to watch his friends' daughters play.  He immediately loved the League and couldn't wait for his own daughters to play in the PWLL.  Mike helped as an assitant coach for three seasons before taking the plunge as a head coach in the Instructional Divison in 2017.  Since then, he has coached or assisted for five seasons in both the Instructional and Pigtail divisions.  Mike joined the PWLL Board in 2019.

Mike has four daughters, all of whom play, or have played, in the PWLL.  His primary reason for coaching is his passion to help young girls develop positive life skills through teamwork, healthy competition, and personal growth.  Nothing makes him happier than to see each of his players improve over the course of the season, gain confidence, and develop a love for the game of softball.

Mike has been working at the Pentagon as an IT Engineer since 2002.  He enjoys baseball, reading, running, and competing in Tough Mudder and Spartan races.

  • Lauren Newton Publicity, Instructional and Senior Division(s) Director
Lauren joined PWLL in 2016 as a team mom for her oldest daughter's team and became a Head Coach in the Instructional Division in 2017 for her two younger daughters. Lauren and her husband Tyler both are very active in the PWLL community and truly believe in putting the girls first. You will often find them at the fields, whether their Pig Tail team has a game or not. :) Lauren has held a few roles on our Board of Directors since joining in the fall of 2017, to include Social Media Director, Ways and Means Director, Co-Junior Division Director. She currently serves at the Instructional Division Director, Senior Division Director, and Publicity Director.

Lauren has played softball from the age of 5 until she graduated high school, and is currently playing on an adult co-ed team in Eastern Prince William County. Her love for this sport and desire to see young girls develop into great ball players is what drives her. If you see her on the field, please go up and say hello!

Lauren currently is an Operations' Resource Manager for a small women-owned, service disabled veteran owned and HUBZone company.

  • Tyler Newton Vice President
Tyler joined the Prince William Lassie League in 2016 when his oldest daughter started in the instructional division. Tyler tries to be involved in the practices and games to keep up the positive re-enforcement. He helped coach with his wife's team this past spring. He will be coaching a Pigtail team with his wife Lauren in the spring, where he hopes all 3 of his kids can play on the same team.

Tyler joined the board of directors in 2017 and has assumed the roles of secretary and assistant equipment manager, with the goal of bettering the league for all of the girls.

He currently works as an engineer with a govt contractor. He has worked in the IT field for 10+ years.

Tyler, his wife, a handful of parents and coaches from the Lassie League will be playing in the Eastern Prince William Co-Ed Softball league in the spring. Playing on Tuesday nights at Pfitzner Park.

  • Bill Rutherford  Registrar, Parliamentarian, Webmaster, Secretary
Bill joined Prince William Lassie League Board as Registrar during the 1989 season when his stepdaughter joined the League in the Instructional Division.  He became the League webmaster in 2002, implementing and managing its first website.  Before the 2014 season he managed the League’s migration to its current web presence and once that was stable, migrated League registration to the current system in time for the 2015 season, allowing parents to sign up with the League and register their players on-line.

After a short stint in the military, Bill spent his work career in information technology and later, in technology program and budget management.
